Pioneer Stadium
In September, we helped celebrate the opening of Leavenworth highschool's new football stadium. As I've mentioned here before, this was a big deal for the school and the town and was part of a $60 million facelift for the entire school district. My parents worked very hard to help the bond issue get passed and they are faithful supporters of Leavenworth schools. This was a happy day for former, current and future Leavenworth kids.
Fun for me that I got to see some old and dear friends. This is me and my former teammate, now head of Human Resources for the school district, Amy Zule.
Me and my former track coach Tamra Strano. After 30 impressive seasons as the Leavenworth girl's track coach and 10 (TEN!) Kansas state titles in track, they named the new track after her. She is one impressive (and very kind) lady.
Despite the pending tornado (only in Kansas), fans turned out in big numbers for pre-game food and fun.

The fancy new scoreboard with video! It was completely donated to the new stadium. Geiger Ready Mix has their own mini-commercial...sign of the times!

As you might imagine, Charlie in the bleachers was perpetual motion. But I think we only knocked over one drink and the people in front of us weren't entirely soaked, so I call it a victory.
Despite Charlie's and all the fans' cheering, the Pioneers did not get a victory that night. In fact, the weather finally broke and we all got drenched. The game was finished the following afternoon.
Charlie must have known Grandaddy was really interested in the game, because he kept going back to pester him over and over again to make sure he was distracted.
Charlie will soon learn that Gram is the one to provide attention during any and all games.
But surely if I pull on Grandaddy's ears I can get his attention....

The students and everyone in the stands were clearly excited and proud of their new stadium and the future of the schools. Maybe we'll be back someday to watch Charlie play against the Pioneers, you never know.
