Farm Table dining with friends

We attended the Farm Table Dinner put on by Green Dirt Farm last Saturday night - something we've been looking forward to all summer! This is the fourth season of the Farm Table Dinners, and they are now so popular that the entire summer slate of dinners sells out in minutes once the online reservations open. To get our 6 tickets, we selected our top 3 choices and logged on simultaneously with three different laptops at the Roasterie on a Sunday morning back in April. It was well worth it. 30 guests sit around one long table inside a covered (but open) barn. Each dinner has a different guest chef - with the only stipulations being to use lamb and sheep's milk cheeses from Green Dirt Farm in the meal. Produce is all seasonal and sourced from local farms. Our chef was Michael Beard from 715, one of our favorite spots in Lawrence. I just love hearing a chef explain the thought and planning that goes into each dish.  It was amazing food and the perfect early fall evening out on the farm.

Just say Yes!

I had the best, unexpected and unplanned Sunday with Charlie. Izzy had a busy social calendar (first grade girls do not mess around), Ryan was busy and Charlie and I found ourselves alone. What to do? Sundays are our catch-up days at home and our parental to-do list is usually long. I don't enjoy it, but it is the one day we go to the grocery store, do laundry, vacuum, run errands - all the stuff that has to get done around the house when both parents work all week. Most Sundays we encourage the kids to play outside, have a neighbor friend come over and basically entertain themselves. On Sundays, I say 'No' a lot. No, I don't have time to play. No, I can't throw the football. No, I can't play dolls or dress up. No, no, no. There just isn't enough time in the day, in the week, to get it all done. Izzy's rainbow party - behind the scenes

It's hard to focus on much besides Izzy's beautiful rainbow birthday cake...     But there were other aspects of the party that I really enjoyed as well.   I loved the idea of using baby food jars to decorate for Izzy's first birthday when I saw this post . In the interest of time and my waning energy, I decided to simplify this idea.
